Letter E Books
Elmer by David McKee
David McKee tells the story of Elmer, the patchwork elephant! Elmer wants to be like all the other elephants so he paints himself grey. In the end, Elmer realizes all the other elephants like him just the way he is – with patchwork colors and a fun sense of humor! Elmer is the first and most popular book, but there is a whole series of silly Elmer stories. You can find a set containing 12 Elmer stories HERE.
An Extraordinary Egg by Leo Lionni
An Extraordinary Egg is the adorable story of a frog named Jessica who loves to find treasures and bring them home to her two frog friends. One day, she stumbles upon an egg and when it hatches, Jessica has a new friend – who she THINKS is a chicken. It’s adorable and funny and I love reading An Extraordinary Egg with my kids whenever I get the chance.
The Elephant’s New Shoe by Laurel Neme
The Elephant’s New Shoe is a sweet, true story of an elephant who lost his foot and the human who helped him get a new shoe. Easy-to-read and with cute illustrations, The Elephant’s New Shoe is a beautiful story about compassion and innovation that makes a difference.
Letter E Activities
Make an Elephant Craft
Use a paper plate to make an adorable elephant with your preschooler! Craft Corner DIY has a cute template using paper plates, paint, and googly eyes. For a more detailed craft, use this printable template and a paper plate to make your elephant!
Find a Treasure
Do a treasure hunt for something extraordinary! Let your kids find something they think is extraordinary – either inside your own house or on a walk around the block. Take turns presenting your extraordinary item. You can make this as silly or serious as you want!
Decorate a E
Print the outline of the letter E on card stock and let your preschooler decorate it! Paint, glitter glue, or dot art can be fun ways to decorate the letter. Or keep it simple and just use crayons or markers!
