Letter B Books
The Runaway Bunny by Margaret Wise Brown
A little bunny wants to run away, but no matter what idea he comes up with for his new life, his mother won’t let him get away from her love. This classic story has colored illustrations mixed between simple drawings. The short text on every other page makes it a good book for short attention spans. The Runaway Bunny also allows space for talking about the pictures since there is limited text. The theme of a mother’s unending love makes this a sweet book to enjoy with your little ones.
Home for a Bunny by Margaret Wise Brown
My son loves this story by Margaret Wise Brown! A bunny goes searching for a home and meets various animals along the way in their own homes. Finally, the bunny finds a home…with another bunny who is willing to share. A simple story with colorful pictures and rythmic text, Home for a Bunny is a great story to read with your preschooler.
Blueberries for Sal by Robert McCloskey
Blueberries for Sal is a classic black-and-white picture book. The illustrations are beautiful and detailed. Sal and her mother go blueberry picking to get blueberries for Sal’s mother to can for the winter. Little Sal gets distracted by eating all the berries she picks and she ends up mixed up with a mother bear and her cub who are also searching for blueberries!
Letter B Activities
Make a Bunny
Crafting with paper plates is such a fun activity for preschoolers. You can use a simple white paper plate for this. First, cut outer ears out of white cardstock and inner ears (a little smaller than your white ears) in pink cardstock (for the inside of the bunny’s ears). Your preschooler can glue the two parts of the ear together and then you can staple or glue these ears to the top of the paper plate. Make the bunny’s face using markers or googly eyes, yarn for whiskers, and a pink pompom for the nose. A quick google search will show tons of tutorials and videos on how to make this craft. Sapna Creations has a good video tutorial that you can view HERE.
Explore Blueberries
If you can go blueberry picking like Little Sal, go for it! The memories from a field trip to pick blueberries would last a lifetime for you and your kids. If not, just get some blueberries from the grocery store and enjoy eating them while talking about Blueberries for Sal and the letter B!
Decorate a B
Print the outline of the letter B on card stock and let your preschooler decorate it! You can keep this simple and just color the letter with crayons or connect it back to the books you’ve read by using a blue dot art marker to represent blueberries.
